CROWTHORNE INFO
DHA takes place at Edgbarrow School in Crowthorne on Saturday mornings.
Each week students will participate in singing, dance and drama classes, an hour in each class with a half hour break. Classes start at 10am and finish at 1.30pm.
The classes are divided into 3 age groups consisting of:
5-8 yrs / 9-11 yrs / 12 upwards
Singing Lessons: Our singing classes will offer a mixture of songs, including Musical Theatre numbers, as well as vocal exercises with the aim of encouraging confidence. As well as group singing students have the opportunity to sing solo if they wish; we encourage this but it is not a requirement.
Dance Lessons: Our dance classes will be a mixture of modern, jazz and street dance. Not only a great way to exercise but also to nurture strength and co-ordination. There will be a combination of group numbers and solo numbers.
Drama Lessons: Our drama classes will encourage imagination, creativity and to work as part of a team. Improvisation, script reading and role-play will be encouraged. We also have LAMDA lessons for the interested in taking Drama exams.

Tuck Shop: Snacks and drinks will be available to purchase at our tuck shop during the lunch break.
ADDITIONAL CLASSES:
LAMDA: Last year we introduced our students to LAMDA, which is an accredited, recognised organisation, specialising in performing arts exams. DHA is an approved Private Centre, which enables a LAMDA examiner to come to our premises to assess the students. The results of our first set of exams were hugely successful, with our students gaining passes with distinctions and merits in Drama. We have now started work on our third set of exams in Drama and Musical Theatre. These exams are optional and sessions take place at 1.30pm to 2.30pm on Saturdays at Edgbarrow Sessions are an additional £12 per discipline and the exam fees vary depending on grade and numbers.
Elite: We have small group of students who have we feel bring something extra to DHA, whether it’s stage performance, singing or dancing. These students have an extra session at 9am until 10am on Saturdays at Edgbarrow and are chosen at the discretion of the Principal and staff.
AGENCY:
In November 2014, we opened an Agency to run alongside the DHA, giving students the opportunity to obtain roles in TV, Film, Musical Theatre etc. Students wishing to join the Agency will need to be assessed and discussed with Jill Harmer, the Principal. The cost of joining the Agency is £103 per annum for The Spotlight fee (this is a casting database which all students must subscribe to) and £50 for headshots (subject to change). These will be done by our usual Photographer.
Several students have been successful in gaining roles in TV, Film, Theatre, Pantos and Commercials, most recently 3 of our students took part in The Voice Kids UK.
However, once having joined the Agency, THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES that a student will secure roles.
PERFORMANCES:
We do get the opportunity to perform at various events. Since we have opened we have performed at a Christmas Lights switch on, filming for Sport Relief for BBC, The Pride of Bracknell Awards, Making Memories at Windsor Theatre Royal, Carnival Capers and various local fetes.
We perform at full academy shows, when all students have the opportunity to perform. Previous shows have included held our own Musical Theatre Galas, Madagascar Jnr and Elf Jnr The Musical. With lots more planned for this coming year including Jnr Musical Theatre Broadway at Birmingham in April, where all students have been invited to take part, along with 39 other groups from throughout the UK.
UNIFORM:
We would like to encourage students to wear uniform to represent The Academy, which will consist of Academy T-Shirt or Hoodie along with black bottoms (preferably not jeans as this restricts movement when dancing) and black Jazz Shoes or trainers.
T-Shirts, Hoodies, Jazz Pants and Jazz Shoes etc. are available to purchase at https://rockthedragon.co.uk/performing-arts/daniharmeracademyofperformingarts/
DISCIPLINE:
Whilst we want all students to enjoy their experience at DHA, discipline is of course encouraged. Any student disrupting the classes, parents will be notified. If misbehavior continues we reserve the right to ask the student to leave as we must take into consideration the other students and staff. Bullying of any shape or form will be taken seriously. Any parent concerned about bullying should notify Jill immediately and the matter will be taken in hand and treated accordingly.
PRESENTATION DAY/REPORTS:
At the end of each year, we hold a Presentation Day, where parents are invited along. Awards and medals are given out as an incentive for progress, along with a yearly report, highlighting the student’s progress and achievements.
SUGGESTIONS / IMPROVEMENTS:
Being a new Academy and Business we would welcome students and parents to approach us with any suggestions/recommendations you may have to help us improve our Academy and these will be considered. We are at the end of the phone and would like to think that parents and students can approach us at anytime.
